Senior Environmental Specialist (Arboriculture focus) PB6 (£40,911 - £45,004) Midlands based, UK Driving Licence Not Safety Critical DBS Check required during onboarding The Role: We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Environmental Specialist (arboriculture) to join us here at National Highways, reporting into either our Birmingham or Nottingham Office locations. Within this role, you will work to To provide deep specialism and technical expertise in the identification and evaluation of environmental needs and early solutions, while assuring adherence to defined policies and standards; the role may be required to work unsociable hours. You will need to have a full, clean, UK driving license to be considered for this position and during employment. Role Responsibilities: Working to lead and coordinate the activities and resources involved in the identification and evaluation of environmental needs in order to develop solutions, specifically within an arboriculture focus. Provide technical advice and input into the development of early solutions for improvements and/or renewals, taking into account new techniques, materials, feasibility, and costs. Identify and commission environmental studies and survey works within the arboriculture field. To collaborate with engineering colleagues and Route Managers to ensure forward programme plans reflect asset needs and priorities, environmental legislation, business priorities and strategies. Manage internal programme of environmental scoping tasks Contribute to the development of process and procedures directly related to environmental asset To oversee and advise on the development of technical briefs provided to the design and construction contractor for improvement and renewals work. Support technical reviews of third party designs to ensure that they comply with standards and design briefs. Monitor the delivery of agreed solutions and plans, liaising with the relevant teams to identify and/or rectify issues. Oversee the production of environmental improvements and renewals and associated documentation, and provide input for monthly financial forecasts and annual/quarterly bids. Manage and produce calculations for KPI reporting for no net loss of biodiversity. Coach and support the professional development of more junior team members. To recommend opportunities to improve environmental asset management capability, processes and approaches, and manage the implementation of changes within own area What You'll Need: Degree or equivalent qualification in relevant discipline or equivalent experience (arboriculture bias) Strong understanding of relevant environmental asset policies and strategies Environmental asset management decision making (e.g. investment, lifecycle costs, value optimisation, service optimisation) Good personal impact and the ability to inspire confidence and positive action Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills Drive, resilience, focus and energy with high level of emotional intelligence Understanding of the Value Management process or cost benefit analysis of schemes Strong knowledge of asset condition assessment and degradation modelling Knowledge of DMRB standards and their application on the highways network Experience in working within budgets including the creation of a budget for scheme development Experience in highway construction and delivery methods Familiarity with GIS packages Our Mission: Making sure our customers have safe and reliable journeys is at the heart of everything we do in Operations.
